India's Top Court Curbs Pellet Gun Use, Demands Police Ammunition Records
India's Supreme Court has put a significant check on the use of controversial pellet guns by police, stating they can only be deployed in 'exceptional situations' for crowd control. The top court has also demanded that the Centre preserve the ammunition log book of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel involved in recent protests at Jantar Mantar, where allegations of metallic pellet use have surfaced. This directive comes amidst ongoing legal challenges to these so-called 'non-lethal' weapons following injuries sustained by protesters during a July 20 demonstration against the NEET paper leak.
